Poverty, HIV/AIDS… & Abandoned Babies

Poverty and HIV/AIDS in Lesotho, Africa, have led to the phenomenon of abandoned babies. Children have been left on the sides of roads, at the doors of hospitals, and in one case – a pit toilet.

The baby was new-born, only a few hours old, and was found bundled in blankets inside the toilet by a passer-by. Taken to the hospital for 2 weeks, the child was then brought to Beautiful Gate Child Care Center still suffering the effects of his ordeal.

Thankfully, the child was able to recover fully. After about 10 months of loving care at the center, he was adopted internationally as a healthy young toddler.

This is just one of many stories of how Beautiful Gate is helping change lives in Lesotho.
