An Arrested Heart
by Henry MiersmaPOSTED Jul 21 2010All of us involved with Beautiful::Africa are excited for the release of Ray Haakonsen’s autobiography: An Arrested Heart.
In his book, Ray recounts the events in his life that brought him to where he is today, caring for abandoned and orphaned children in Lesotho while serving as the Director of Beautiful Gate.
Ray’s story starts in Rhodesia, where as a young man he excelled at many things, including serving as Head Boy of his high school, representing Rhodesia on their national rugby team, and serving during wartime as a fighter pilot in the Rhodesian military.
The story outlines Ray’s tremendous personal struggle in dealing with the impact of the war and his subsequent meltdown as a person that results in divorce and extreme loneliness. It is only after a radical encounter with God that Ray’s life is totally transformed, leading him to remarry his wife and dedicate his life to missions.
Ray’s heart has definitely been “arrested” by God. We hope that you too are moved by Ray’s story and will join with those that have already been motivated to get involved in the tiny country of Lesotho.
