Beautiful::Africa

Last week we had some visitors here from CrossPoint Church, my home church in California. I have made many friends here in Lesotho, but it is still so nice to have some familiar faces around. It was such a joy to sit around, share meals, and share about my new life here.

The California group helped us put together a VBS program for the “Little Feet” preschool here at Beautiful Gate. The kids were so well behaved. I’m sure they had lots of fun from the day filled with songs, arts, crafts, and games. These kids all live very simple lives, yet they are the most joyful kids I have ever met!

We had a measles outbreak here in Lesotho so we gave all of our kids shots. My little friend (who I talked about in my earlier post) actually came down with the measles before we could give him a shot. This really scared me. He had a very high temperature and didn’t look very good. The day before the long Easter weekend he was admitted to the hospital.

A few days after Easter, I was eager to see how my friend was doing. We were giving the group from California a tour of Beautiful Gate and I went into my buddy’s house and he was lying in his crib looking much healthier than he had four days prior. It was such a relief to see him getting healthy again. I was able to pick him up and show him to my friends from California. They immediately fell in love with him too.

We have some exciting new here. We had a 5 day old baby brought to Beautiful Gate last week. This child was found a couple of days ago in a grocery bag at the local mall. There are so many crazy stories like this here at Beautiful Gate. Kids found in the most horrible places that are again given a chance at life. It is such a joy to be a part of that.

Sometimes when I’m walking by myself, I reflect on the past month of my life and I literally start laughing because I am just so filled with joy. I have never felt more alive than I do here, and I think it’s because God is smiling on the things that are done here at Beautiful Gate.
