Beautiful::Africa

This spring, the Beautiful::Africa campaign is partnering with California artist, Melanie VanderWal, former Beautiful Gate volunteers and local businesses to host the Beautiful Art Benefit! The goal of Beautiful Art is to raise funds and awareness about Beautiful Gate’s ministry in Lesotho. Original artwork inspired by Melanie’s time at Beautiful Gate will be auctioned off in a silent auction with all proceeds going to Beautiful Gate.

We invite you to join us for an enriched evening of art, live music, and fellowship. The event will be held on May 7, 2010 at the Mitten Building in downtown Redlands, CA. The evening will begin at 7pm and the silent auction will continue till 9:30pm.

In August of 2009 Melanie VanderWal spent a month at the Beautiful Gate care center in order to create a series of images based on her experience. Since her return in September she has worked tirelessly to develop a body of art comprising of paintings, photographs and mixed media pieces.

Melanie believes that the power of imagery is a persuasive tool given to her by God that opens the door in which the Holy Spirit can work. That is why Melanie has deemed her work Transforming the Arts and Lives for the Kingdom (T.A.L.K.). Her art is a visual representation of what Christ is teaching her in life and through its symbolism she hopes the viewer will consider its meaning by means of dialogue and reflection in order to be challenged by truth.
