The Realities of our Ministry.

A tiny little body is pulled out of the mire of a pit latrine…she is still alive.

Who would do such a thing and why? Then it hit me.  She’s a Down syndrome baby.  Could this have been the reason?

After Katleho was brought out of the pit latrine, she was taken to Queen Elizabeth II Hospital where they suctioned all the muck out of her and commenced with intravenous antibiotics.  Two weeks later, she was released and came to Beautiful Gate.

She was a special baby, with extra special needs, so she needed extra special care.  However, despite the special care she received at Beautiful Gate, she began to develop respiratory problems and was admitted to the hospital for oxygen. She seemed to be getting better, but Down syndrome children often have organ defects. Her little heart just wasn’t able to cope.

Unfortunately, all efforts failed and she gave up the fight to live.

We laid her to rest on Tuesday, May 12th, 2009.  She is now in the arms of Jesus instead of in the awful, cold, dark, unpleasant place she was found.

Only a baby’s grave
A foot or two at the most
Of tear soaked earth, but a loving God
Knows what the little grave cost.

Only a Baby’s life
Brief as a perfumed kiss,
So quickly it goes
But our Father knows
We are nearer to Him for this.
